“You show that you are a letter from Christ. . . written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” II Corinthians 3:3 (NIV)
If you are like most people, you delight in going to the mailbox to see what comes in the mail each day. What do you look for first? Probably you quickly flick your fingers through the supermarket flyers, the sweepstakes offers, the mail order catalogs, and the monthly bills as you eagerly look for a simple white envelope on which your address is handwritten. Right? You are looking for some correspondence from a friend or relative or perhaps a birthday greeting.
Two people do not personally meet in a letter, but the words of a letter can express to the recipient the feeling of the sender…sympathy, joy, appreciation, congratulations, love. Words of a letter also reveal the CHARACTER of the writer.
The Apostle Paul was complimenting the Corinthian Church on how well they represented the godly precepts he had taught them. He told them their lives were “read” by everybody…they were “living letters.”
What has the Spirit of the living God written on your heart? Is your “letter” thrown into File 13, or are your contents perfumed and full of life-giving expressions?
PRAY: “Heavenly Father, may Your sweet fragrance fill my life today so that my ‘letter’ will be eagerly anticipated by others. Make my life exemplify Your Spirit. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
