April 27 – Ten Keys to Killing a Giant – #7 Run at the Enemy

“And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.” I Samuel 17:48

David “hasted” and “ran toward” the giant. Putting all of his fears and reservations aside, he moved swiftly to engage the enemy.

Giants are killed through bold, aggressive faith! Many good soldiers have fallen because of tentative indecisiveness. Face your problem head on. Do not try to sneak up on it or defeat it slowly. Sound the attack and charge!

Jesus said, in Matthew 16:18, that the “gates of hell” would not prevail against the Church. The implication here is that you have the ability to aggressively batter down the gates of bondage, and the enemy will not be able to stand up to all the pounding! Attack your discouragement with hope in God’s Word. Attack your disappointment with a song of joy.

Do your part . . . run with directed purpose at the enemy. Remember, “… the battle is the Lord’s” (I Samuel 17:47b), and He will deliver that tiny stone directly to the forehead of the enemy!

“Father, a stone seems so little to accomplish such a large task; yet little by little, ‘precept upon precept,* You teach me and accomplish miracles in my battles. Thank You! Amen.

*Isaiah 28:10

April 26 – Ten Keys to Killing a Giant – #6 Rally Your Faith

“Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” I Samuel 17:45-46

In the tradition of today’s professional wrestling, David and Goliath exchanged some pretty forceful language before engaging in battle. “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” Goliath bellowed. “Come here,”he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!” (I Samuel 17:43-44, NIV)

However, David’s words quoted above were more than nasty name calling. He was rallying his faith. He was stirring up the gift of God within him and making confession of God’s power to deliver! He was prophesying his own future victory.

James 5:16b says: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” The Greek word for “effectual” is “energeo,” here meaning “to pray with divine energy!” Do not just SPEAK words of faith…SING them, SHOUT them. Stir up the gift of faith. Take authority over that giant situation in your life NOW!

“Father, fill me with divine energy and the gift of faith so that I can ‘sing and shout the victory’ all around the camp. Amen.”

April 25 – Ten Keys to Killing a Giant – #5 Reach For Your Own Armor

“And Saul armed David with his armor, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. . . And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them.  And David put them off him.”
    I Samuel 17:38-39b

As soon as David said he would fight Goliath, there were those who wanted to tell him HOW.

You will never lack for people who have an opinion on how you should live your life; but no matter how well intentioned they are and how good their advice is, YOU cannot walk in THEIR shoes. Nor can you live by THEIR faith. God’s supernatural answers will come by faith. . . YOUR faith!

Even if you have only a slingshot’s worth of faith, God wants to work in you. He wants your faith to GROW. Faith grows through use and exercise.

Your faith is PROVEN through experience. David had “proved” his slingshot on the lion and the bear. . . God empowered it to work on the giant.

You may think you have a SMALL amount of faith, but remember. . . you have a BIG GOD! Pray your own prayer, make your own confession, reach for your own armor, take on that “shield of faith”(Ephesians 6:16), and God will empower it!

“Omnipotent Father, I know You have a suit of armor tailor-made for me.  I will put on the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit, and then trust Your power to overcome giants. Amen.”
